Playthrough - Saints Row IV: Zero Saints Thirty
I was the mission designer for the opening mission of Saints Row IV. I worked in a pod with an Artist and Programmer from start to finish. I was responsible for writing the mission documentation, designing the layout, scripting combat, pacing charts, and assets requests.
When I was assigned this mission, I was handed the script for the intro, the outro cinematic of the player landing in the Oval Office, and the name of the real life Terrorists that the player was suppose to kill. What follows is a wonderful yet mad fever dream that is the opening mission of Saints Row IV.
The Saints start by infiltrating an old Soviet-era missile base taken over by terrorists, and it ends with the player riding a nuclear ICBM to the Whitehouse.
My goal was to play it as straight as possible with a Call of Duty inspired level design, with as many tropes as I could get away with. Then slowly crank up the crazy as the mission progresses so that riding the ICBM seems like the logical conclusion.
I was the LD on the opening mission for Saints Row IV. I received the most bizarre story brief that I'd ever seen, and then sent to create mission in which the Saints save Washington DC from terrorists and nuclear annihilation. Spoofing the popular military shooters of the time. I worked together with an Artist and Programmer from start to ship
Mission Zero Saints Thirty: The setup for the slow-mo Room Breach sequence. Both co-op players were required to be in position to start. And I wanted to make sure each player got a clear view of the escaping villain and had equal to chance to clear the room
SR4 Mission 0 - Climbing the rocket sequence. I worked with a Storyboard plan out the sequence. I drew over to explain how the player climbs the rocket and QTEs involved
SR4 Mission 10 - King Me: The plans for triggered event and combat spawning
SR4 Mission 1 - King Me: Approaching the church Combat encounter
Battle Plan Church graveyard: After meeting up with Ben King, the person they can to rescue, the player is directed to the graveyard of the church. This shows the order of enemy waves and how they arrive
Battle Plan Street side church: After the graveyard is mostly clear Ben King calls for help. The player fights off a few more wave until the Mini-boss arrives.
An alternate view of the Church's street side combat
Mission 10 - Ben King me: The final sequence of event before the player can escape. Player will flee the church back towards the start to mission and trigger the final encounter with a super powered Tanya
